Neighbours has made history yet again, with its revival series having claimed the top spot on Amazon Freevee less than three weeks since its relaunched on the service.
Talk about kicking things off with a bang!
The popular soap, a staple of daytime TV in the UK, was controversially axed by Channel 5 last year, despite being a consistent performer in the ratings.
After an emotive finale episode, which saw huge names like Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie and Guy Pearce return to Ramsay Street, the credits rolled for what was thought to be the last ever time.
Freevee, however, came to the rescue, resuscitating Neighbours, with the streaming service having taken note of the passionate campaign orchestrated by fans, who refused to let Neighbours die.
The long-running soap relaunched last month to critical acclaim, with fans lapping up every shocking twist, of which there were many, with the new episodes proving a huge hit.
The show has evidently rated well on Amazon Freevee thus far, particularly in the UK where its always had a loyal fanbase, with it having already taken up residence at the number one spot on the service, less than three weeks into its run.
Alan Fletcher, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy, was quick to share such news with his followers, writing on Instagram: ‘A huge thanks @amazonfreevee viewers worldwide who have taken @neighbours #thenewchapter to your hearts. Can’t argue with number 1!!!!!!’
Amazon Freevee UK responded to the positive news with: ‘We ❤️ Neighbours’, while Neighbours themselves shared the update on their Instagram story, writing: ‘Thank you UK fans for making Neighbours #1 on @amazonfreeveeuk.’
What an achievement.
It seems that Freevee made the right choice after all in bringing Neighbours back to life, though we never had any doubt about such a thing.
This revival was one worth fighting for!
The new and improved series takes place two years after the star-studded finale, with conflict aplenty for the Ramsay Street favourites.
Karl and Susan Kennedy are at each other’s throats over a secret, Toadie has a surprise new love interest and Jane Harris is still loved up with Mike Young, played by Guy Pearce, who has returned for a short stint to tie up his story.
The OC’s Mischa Barton also stars in the revival, as Paul Robinson’s newest enemy, with plenty of drama still to unfold between the two.
Neighbours streams in the UK on Amazon Freevee, with new episodes dropping Mondays to Thursdays at 7am.
