A fare-dodging Tiktokker has got her comeuppance after her attempts to go viral landed her with a criminal record.
The unnamed influencer shared tips on dodging train fares, including hiding in the toilet and buying tickets that only take you one stop.
However, the very public nature of her bragging has now cost her £800 in fares.
The very unsophisticated crime saw her travelling across Midlands, ending up at stations in Derby, Tamworth, Burton-upon-Trent and Crewe.
In one video she says: ‘Overall, if you get smart with it, there are a couple of ways to beat the train company. I would highly advise anybody not to pay.’
Her videos and persistent fare dodging have led to her being given a criminal record and a £773 fine following a joint investigation by East Midlands Railway and British Transport Police.
PC Lisa Scott-Savage said: ‘We’re extremely pleased with the result in this case, which highlights the price of evading fares – hefty fines and a criminal record.
‘It is the legitimate fare paying passengers who end up bearing the brunt of the cost of the dishonest people who think they can get away without paying.’
Customers on East Midlands Railway can be fined £100 on top of a new ticket for travelling without a ticket.
EMR’s customer services director, David Meredith, added: ‘The impact of fare evasion is felt by our law-abiding fare paying customers and ultimately the taxpayer.
‘It is indefensible for certain individuals to believe they’re exempt from paying for our services, and as these cases show, our teams are across our network looking for people who think it’s ok to break the law.’
