After extending Victor Lindelof’s contract, Manchester United have reportedly decided whether to keep or release Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri.

When counting those on loan, United have nine players whose deals expire at the end of the season.

This includes the aforementioned trio, Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial, but the Red Devils do have the option to trigger a 12 month extension in their contracts.

It was reported just before the turn of the year that the Red Devils had opted to extend Lindelof’s stay at Old Trafford – much to the dismay of Gary Neville – but would not do the same for fellow centre-back Varane.

And it now appears they have made their minds up on Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal, with The Sun reporting that the pair will remain United players for another season.

The former looked like he would be one of the first players out the door when Erik ten Hag arrived but he has since worked his way back into contention and has been a reliable if unspectacular asset, though the manager still prefers Diogo Dalot at right-back.

As for Hannibal, the 20-year-old has looked promising when given the chance, but despite United’s midfield issues he’s only been trusted with nine appearances – four of them starts – this season.

He recently made the surprise request not to be called-up to the Tunisia squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations so he could focus on sorting out his future.

Sevilla, Lyon and Freiburg are among the clubs interested in his services and though United will sanction a loan move so he can get regular minutes, they will only do so after tying his future down.

January will be a pivotal month for United both in the transfer market and on the pitch, with Ten Hag’s side currently seventh in the table and nine points off the top four.

Their first Premier League game of 2024 will be a tricky home clash against Tottenham but before then they travel to League One side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round.
