Xbox Developer Direct preview showcase rumoured for next week

Multiple sources claim an Xbox preview event will take place next week, a year after the same presentation shadow-dropped Hi-Fi Rush.

Despite a promising slate of exclusive titles at the outset, Microsoft’s 2023 ultimately devolved into disappointment – defined by the lacklustre sandwich of Redfall and Starfield.

The light before the darkness was Tango Gameworks’ rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush, which was surprise-released during an Xbox Developer Direct at the tail end of January.

In what might become an annual presentation, Microsoft is rumoured to have another Xbox Developer Direct scheduled for this month, which could have another surprise in store.

According to a Reddit post by Zantorn, who correctly predicted the dates of two Nintendo Directs last year, it’s claimed the ‘first Xbox event of the year’ will be held on the week following January 14th – so anytime between January 15-19th, not counting the weekend.

Insider Gaming, meanwhile, claims an Xbox event is scheduled to take place within the ‘next couple of weeks’, without specifying a date.

Last year’s Xbox Developer Direct debuted on January 25, so it’s possible another could take place near the same date. Along with Hi-Fi Rush, the presentation featured deep-dives into Minecraft Legends, Forza Motorsport, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Redfall.

If recent rumours are to be believed, an Xbox Developer Direct could be the perfect place to announce Hi-Fi Rush for other platforms. The prevailing rumour, according to insiders, is the game is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch, but Microsoft is yet to confirm anything.

It also might be the ideal time to spotlight Microsoft’s big games for the coming year, with Hellblade 2 and Avowed still without a specific release date.
