Erik ten Hag has predicted a bright future for Manchester United, backing Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund to reach ‘the highest levels’.
United made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League after a 3-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Hojlund opened the scoring for the hosts on the day of his 21st birthday, smartly jinking past Nayef Aguerd on the edge of the box before drilling into the bottom corner. The Dane has now scored in his last four league games, taking his tally in his debut season to 10 goals.
Garnacho doubled United’s lead five minutes in the second-half with his effort deflecting off Aguerd, sitting on the advertising boards alongside Mainoo and Hojlund in a celebration United fans will hope to see plenty more of in the future.
The Argentina international added a second with a calm finish six minutes from full-time.
The comfortable win followed Thursday’s dramatic last-gap victory over Wolves where Mainoo curled home a superb winner deep into injury time.
‘The future for Manchester United is very good because we have high potentials,’ ten Hag said of his three young stars.
‘They are together and want to play football with adventure and enjoyment. If we keep this process going I am sure we will achieve high levels.
‘We are building a team, we signed young players, and we give them opportunities.
‘This is a process with ups and downs and we have to realise this. Our experienced players will help them and we need them and they will help the young players perform.’
Despite the win, there is major concern for Lisandro Martinez with the United defender forced off injured in the second-half.
In a bleak update from ten Hag, the Dutchman described it as a ‘personal disaster’ for the centre-half.
‘He is very sad, very disappointed. We all feel really with him.
‘First of all, it is a personal disaster when it is really bad but also for the team it is really bad because he definitely brings us a lot.’
