Celebrity Bake Off star reveals Danny Dyer had a total ‘breakdown’

The Great Celebrity Bake Off star Yinka Bokinni has dished the dirt on her fellow bakers, revealing Danny Dyer buckled under the pressure in the tent.

The BBC Radio 1 presenter, 35, joins the EastEnders icon, as well as comedians Leigh Francis and Rhod Gilbert on the Channel 4 show where they try their best to whip up treats all in the name of charity.

But despite the calm authority of judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood and the encouragement of jovial presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, it all gets a bit too much for Danny during the showstopper challenge.

Yinka told Metro.co.uk ahead of tonight’s episode that he had a wobble after he was tasked with designing a baked masterpiece out of a personal failure.

Danny, 46, decided to create a cake of himself trapped in a wardrobe after a real-life DIY fail.

‘Danny had a mare trying to get the figure of himself into his closet [in the cake],’ she revealed.

‘He almost had a bit of a breakdown; we had to take a breather because it just kept falling apart.’

However, despite the Scared of the Dark host’s mishap, Yinka said she was impressed by his baking skills – partly because she was expecting him to be a disaster.

‘He’s not bad [at baking],’ the former Capital Xtra star said. ‘I thought that he was going to be cutting off our fingers and adding salt and stuff. But he can make me a cake if he wants to.’

Yinka said she got on like a house on fire with Danny, Rhod, 55, and Leigh, 50, and they all bonded because they were ‘larger than life’ characters – to the extent that she was given a pet name.

She said: ‘Danny Dyer calls everybody baby. And I tried to do it but it didn’t have the same effect as his because of his tone and his delivery. But he just makes everyone feel really comfortable.’

The Naked Education presenter was also thrilled to be under Alison’s watch, describing the 49-year-old as a ‘warm’ and talented presenter who was up for a laugh between takes.

‘Alison challenged me to a race and I was like, “Okay, let’s go”. And I actually started running and obviously she didn’t…. so I left her in the dust,’ she laughed.

‘It was actually a family weekend rather than a competition.’

Yinka was similarly charmed by Paul, Prue, 84, and Noel, 50 – although she did admit she was ‘nervous’ to meet Paul, 58, as he’s ‘formidable’ in the baking world.

She confessed: ‘Paul is an intimidating man. You know that he knows what he’s talking about and you really want to please him so when your biscuits come out the colour of baby poo it’s really frustrating… or when you don’t read recipes properly for the 100th time in a row and you can see him looking at you over the flour….’

‘It’s really funny,’ Yinka continued. ‘It’s exactly what I thought it was going to be like in the tent actually.’

Despite having lots of fun on the Bake Off, which is raising money for Stand Up To Cancer, Yinka very much left her cake tins in the tent.

So there’s no hope of you trying out your newfound expertise at home?

‘Oh no,’ she responded.

‘I didn’t bake at home before and I will not be trying anymore; it’s not for me. I’ll make rice.’

The Great Celebrity Bake Off For SU2C continues tonight from 7:40pm on C4.
