Trigger warning: This article contains discussion of self-harm.

Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) and Dillon Ray’s (Nathaniel Dass) lives are hanging in the balance in Hollyoaks after a showdown in the folly, with both boys left unconscious.

The heated altercation came in the wake of Lucas attempting to flee the eponymous village for America with Carter Shepherd (David Ames), who has been practising conversion therapy on him for months.

Lucas, as viewers know, has been struggling with his sexuality for much of the past year after he came to realise that he was falling for best mate Dillon, who felt the same way about him.

Carter, however, spotted the signs of the two boys’ closeness and proceeded to prey on Lucas’ confusion, manipulating him into thinking that being gay is wrong, with some assistance from twisted church leader Declan Hawthorne (Alan Turkington).

With Carter having been found out, the headmaster has decided to kidnap Lucas, ordering the teen to get his passport and meet him on the outskirts of the village. Dillon, however, spotted Lucas with his passport in hand and chased him to the folly, where he found out the true depths of Carter’s manipulation.

Urging Lucas to stay with him, Dillon confessed his love for Lucas, who – despite feeling the same way – was left more confused than ever, with Dillon’s heartfelt words offering the possibility of a life that Carter has repeatedly told him is ‘wrong’.

In emotional scenes, the teen lashed out, violently attacking Dillon and leaving him unconscious. Reeling in the wake of the assault, Lucas pleaded with Dillon to wake up, telling him that he’s in love with him too.

Fearing that he killed his one true love, Lucas self harmed. The schoolboy, however, soon started to lose consciousness, realising that there was blood seeping through his sweater as he collapsed by Dillon’s side.

It’s not looking good for Lucas and Dillon. If you’re desperate to know if they survive, I’ve got the answers.

No, I can confirm that Lucas and Dillon do not die.

Subsequent scenes will see Ste (Kieron Richardson) – having been tipped off by John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) – set off in search of missing Lucas, locating him at the folly.

Lucas will be rushed to hospital, with Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) informing Ste that his son has been self-harming. It’s touch and go for a bit but spoilers for next week confirm that Lucas regains consciousness, as does Dillon, who is also raced to Dee Valley hospital.

The ordeal isn’t quite over for Lucas, however, with Declan sneaking into his hospital room undetected, where he proceeds to manipulate the confused teen once again.

Ste, meanwhile, arrives back at the hospital and, in a bid to undo the damage that Carter and Declan have done, he speaks openly to Lucas about his sexuality.

In order to try and make Lucas see that he was groomed, the concerned dad opens up about his experience at the hands of Jonny Baxter and Stuart Sumner, the Far-Right leaders, explaining that he was radicalised by them.

What’s more, he reflects on his own coming out experience, with Lucas subsequently confirming that Dillon is in love with him. Ste vows to support his son every step of the way and encourages him to visit injured Dillon to make things right.

Lucas subsequently does just that, apologising to Dillon for what he did.
