Children’s TV favourite Andrew Agnew looks worlds away from the 00s character that catapulted him to fame.

The Scottish actor won the hearts of children everywhere with his portrayal of PC Plumb in the CBeebies show Balamory.

Now, 19 years on, the 48-year-old has taken on a very different role.

Andrew is set to play Dame Dolly Dundonald in a stage production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

It’s safe to say Andrew has gone all out for his panto transformation, as images show him donning vibrant blue eye makeup, heeled boots, and an elaborate beehive costume.

The Kilmarnock production puts a twist on the classic Goldilocks tale, as audiences will watch Dame Dolly search for an impressive new act to rival fellow circus owner Roger Von Riccarton’s show, which has way more funding and typically better performers.

Mischievous Goldilocks plays a circus acrobat who meets the three bears while out for a walk between shows, having stumbled upon their cottage.

Speaking ahead of his panto performance, actor Andrew said: ‘I am delighted to be back in Killie this year with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

‘Especially as it’s going to be a brand new show and a different experience for us all. Audiences are going to love it.’

‘It’s an unusual title for a Killie panto, certainly my first time doing this show, but people are going to enjoy the change, I think,’ he added.

‘I love the circus, and we are going to have our very own in Kilmarnock with all the comforts that we all need to keep us cosy, but most importantly, entertained over this festive season.’

It was announced earlier this year that Balamory would be getting a reboot (Picture: BBC)

Andrew is best known for starring in the Bafta-winning programme Balamory, which ran from 2002 to 2005.

He starred alongside the likes of Julie Wilson Nimmo as Miss Hoolie, Miles Jupp as Archie the Inventor, and Rodd Christensen as Spencer.

Aimed towards preschool children, the show was based around the island community of Balamory in Scotland, where each character wears a distinctive colour of clothing that matches the house they live in.

Since then, Andrew has appeared in many pantomimes, including Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, and Peter Pan.

He’s also directed other children’s TV shows and helmed his own CBeebies live theatre show.

Just recently, those who grew up with the characters of Balamory were delighted to learn the show would be getting a reboot, which will undoubtedly fill many hearts with nostalgia, while also providing entertainment for a new generation.

Two new series of the show have been commissioned for a revival on CBeebies in 2026.

It’s believed some of the original characters will even make an appearance.

Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6, said: ‘A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies.

‘It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together.’
