He may be best known for presenting the beloved series Dick & Dom in da Bungalow, but nearly 20 years after it ended, Dominic Wood has now picked up new fans in an entirely unexpected way.

The entertainer, magician and presenter first came to public prominence presenting ‘the broom cupboard’ presentation links on CBBC in the 1990s and early 2000s with his co-star Richard ‘Dick’ McCourt.

The pair then went on to host their award-winning children’s entertainment show, where they’d challenge kids to undertake games to win prizes like TVs and game consoles to less desirable ones like a hubcap or bottled water.

Between the games, the show also aired various cartoons.

Running for five seasons, it eventually came to an end in 2006.

Although Dominic worked on BBC Radio One after the TV series ended and they went on to front Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom in 2013, he’s rarely been seen on screens since then.

However, he’s now instead made a name for himself as a handyman online, amassing over 270,000 followers on TikTok and over 220,000 on Instagram.

Posting under the handle @the+houseofwood, Dom regularly shares clips as he undertakes a home renovation project.

It all began nearly four years ago when Dom and his wife Sandi (who was part of the pop band allSTARS*) purchased a 1930s property in Surrey for their young family.

But around the time they moved in, the pandemic hit, and they were unable to hire builders and tradesmen to carry out necessary work.

Posting a video about his conundrum online in June 2020, Dom then decided to step him and try carry out the jobs himself.

Nearly four years later, he’s shared over 220 posts documenting his progress.

One of his most popular, from 2022, shows Dom redoing the staircase, removing the carpet and sanding the wood underneath to prepare it for painting.

‘As you know we moved in during lockdown 1 so we were lucky enough to get any carpet. A runner wasn’t a option though as everywhere was shut!’ he captioned the post.

‘Over 2 days I’ve worked really hard stripping back the stairs, sanding, filling, punching in nails and painting. Hard and VERY messy work!!!!’

Others show him refitting radiators, grouting a bathroom and restoring a garden.

However not missing their chance to reference his old show, some followers joked: ‘So much less work when you lived in a bungalow.’

‘Sorry… stairs? Thought you lived in da bungalow?’ another quipped.

Despite his current TikTok fame, in 2022 Dick and Dom revealed fans of their kid’s show wouldn’t be seeing them on that social media platform together because their name was banned.

Although they’d tried to create an account, they explained they’d fallen foul of the app’s restrictions due to their ‘rude’ name and that anyone searching for their account was met with a message warning the phrase ‘may be associated with behaviour or content that violates our guidelines’.
