Horror fans are set to be in for a treat as Pearl, one of the goriest deranged movies to be released in recent years, is set to come to Netflix.

While there are plenty of great horror films set to be released in 2025, there are some incredible hidden gems set to come to streaming platforms very soon.

Mia Goth, Tandi Wright, and David Corenswet star in the horror drama Pearl directed by Ti West which has gained a huge cult following.

Released in September 2022, the film was a box office smash making $9,847,490 worldwide (£7,964,035).

The synopsis reads: ‘In 1918, a lonely Texas farm girl with a ravenous appetite for stardom goes to increasingly extreme lengths for what she believes is her big break.’

The film was a success on Rotten Tomatoes and years on from its initial release it has maintained a 93% ranking with huge praise from reviewers.

Many of the critics specifically praised Goth for her spellbinding performance in the film.

For the Observer, Wendy Ide said: ‘Goth is riotously entertaining throughout, but two specific scenes, in both of which the camera rests solely on her face for an extended shot, capture the full force of her unnerving talent.’

Christina Newland said in a review for iNews: ‘This demented, charming, Wizard of Oz-like horror is all the more disturbing because it doesn’t look like a horror movie.’

‘A great horror film that captures the dawning age of cinema beautifully well. Also has a great performance by Mia Goth that deserves all the awards she gets for her performance,’ said David Griffiths for Subculture Entertainment.

‘Pearl’s torment is believable largely because Goth single-handedly wills it to be. Her commitment to every choked cry for attention, to every glassy-eyed departure from reality, is unimpeachable,’ said Clarisse Loughrey for The Independent.

The film is part of a franchise and the second instalment in West’s X film series – which sees Goth play Maxine Minx and Pearl.

Pearl is a prequel to X (also released in 2022) and Goth reprises her role as the title character Pearl who returns as an elderly woman in X.

The third instalment of the franchise, MaXXXine was released in 2024 – and grossed $22 million ( £17,782,951) worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of the series.

Pearl is available to stream on Now and is set to join Netflix very soon.
