‘Traumatised and screaming’ Emmerdale fans blown away by Marlon death shock

My jaw was on the floor, I was dialling up Ofcom and writing to my MP, and I was swearing at my TV screen: ‘How could you, Emmerdale!? You can’t kill MARLON DINGLE!’

Yep, they got me. And they got you, too looking at the reactions to a recent episode that saw Mark Charnock’s loveable character shot dead by drug pusher Ray (Joe Absolom).

The episode had seen Marlon spend time laughing and reminiscing with daughter April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) as she was able to enjoy being childlike again, temporarily forgetting the horrendous ordeal she is trapped in with drug lord Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

They were heartwarming scenes and as Marlon told the teen that nothing she could tell him would make him stop loving her, she blurted out that she had killed a man!

Finally, thought I. The truth is out and April has done the bravest possible thing.

She tearfully opened her heart to a shocked Marlon as he digested what his vulnerable young child had been put through.

I was rooting for April as she recounted the horrors she had endured, and we all cheered for Marlon when he handled it in the right way, assuring April she had done nothing wrong, and not passing judgement.

But as they prepared to go to the police, Ray burst in and shot Marlon, who then died in April’s arms.

An emotional montage followed, showing the various scenes from the episode of Marlon and April rediscovering their fractured bond.

And the audience was left utterly stunned. Had Emmerdale really done this? Could this be soap’s most shocking, out of the blue death ever?

Well, thankfully not – the episode’s focus was on April imagining what could happen if she told Marlon the truth, and she had envisaged Celia’s threat to kill Marlon coming true.

But boy, did we all go through a minute from hell thinking that Marlon was actually dead.

‘Omg what an episode!’ X user Julie Reed exclaimed. ‘I really thought she told her dad!’

Another user, the, um, strangely named Lisa Swain’s Bathwater (I won’t ask) declared themselves ‘traumatised’, while Daily Robron/Emmerdale was left ‘screaming’.

You and me both!

Amy aka geordiegal, exclaimed that ‘they got me’ and admitted that the scenes had left them ‘crying like a baby’.

There was a lot of praise for the episode, too.

JD.Gamz had ‘no words’ except to declare ‘wow’ over it while Metro’s own readers declared it ‘one of the best episodes in years’ and ‘a total rollercoaster, I can barely breathe’.

And meanwhile, Metro’s teasing article encouraging a viewing before delving deep into social media prompted Jen, along with others, to get themselves across it all.

‘This tweet alone has got me watching on the train on my commute to work…’ they said, before adding at the end: ‘Yeah this episode needs a warning, do not watch in public.’

April’s agony is therefore set to continue, with Celia and Ray turning the screws on her – and more peril will come in the form of yet more twists.

I really can’t cope with the rollercoaster – and it feels like you all feel the same as me.

We’re in this together, Emmerdale fans. Let’s brace ourselves.
