The 50-minute programme started with narration from Falchuk: ‘Imagine we had the opportunity to hear from a cultural icon, after they’ve passed away.

‘A chance for them to shape their own legacy, to be heard one last time in their own words.’

It featured a sit-down interview with the two men, followed by a monologue which Dane addressed to his children.

After the 40-minute chat in which he discussed his relationship with his parents, his struggles with addiction, and his memorable times on both Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy, Dane talked directly to viewers.

He began: ‘Billie and Georgia, these words are for you.

‘I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?’

Dane reminisced on the blissful times they’d spent together on holidays and said: ‘Those days, pun intended, were heaven.’

He then went on to tell them about the four things he’d learned from the disease: ‘First, live now, right now in the present. It’s hard, but I learned to do that.’

Secondly, he said: ‘Fall in love. Not necessarily with a person, although I do recommend that as well. But fall in love with something.’

Next, he said to ‘choose your friends wisely. Find your people and allow them to find you, and then give yourselves to them.’

Finally, he told his daughters to never give up: ‘Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit.

‘The two of you are different people, but you’re both strong and resilient. You inherited resiliency from me.

‘That’s my superpower, I bounce right up, and I keep coming back. […]

‘So when something unexpected hits you, and it will, because that’s life, fight and face it with honesty, integrity and grace, even if it feels or seems insurmountable.’

‘I hope I’ve demonstrated that you can face anything. You can face the end of your days. You can face hell with dignity. Fight girls, and hold your heads high.

‘Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.’

Prior to his death, Eric Dane sat for an interview with the understanding that it would only be shared with the world after he passed. In that conversation, he reflected on his battle with ALS, his struggles with addiction, and his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart: ?I will never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.?
