One of the stars of Game of Thrones looked worlds away from Westeros while promoting her new TV series, which delves into the dark history of a famous figure’s links to the Nazis.

When Maisie Williams was just 13 years old, she was propelled to global stardom by playing Arya Stark in the fantasy HBO series, the daughter of Lord Ned and Lady Catelyn Stark who grows up to become a deadly assassin.

Rejecting society’s expectations of her as a girl and an individual born into a noble house, Arya learns how to fight, spy and survive from an early age, killing many of her enemies along the way.

While attending an event for her upcoming Apple TV Plus drama The New Look, Maisie was unrecognisable in a 1950s silhouette, finishing off her look with a vintage black hat, sheer gloves and cat-eye shades.

The 26-year-old has become known in recent years for her bold approach to fashion, going for a gothic outfit that she designed herself at the 2021 Met Gala, complete with bleached eyebrows.

Last July, she looked every inch an ethereal goddess at the Iris Van Herpen show at Paris Fashion Week, wearing a dress that looked as though it was made from an array of brown waves levitating in the air.

Before that in 2022, Maisie starred in the TV series Pistol – a biographical mini-series about the punk rock band Sex Pistols – transforming into Pamela ‘Jordan’ Rooke by wearing a beehive blonde wig and dramatic makeup looks.

In The New Look, the actress portrays Catherine Dior, who was a resistance fighter during the Second World War.

The drama follows celebrated French fashion designer Christian Dior (Ben Mendelsohn) in Paris in the aftermath of the war, when his rise to fame and acclaim rivalled Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche).

The show places a spotlight on Coco Chanel’s links to the Nazis, as she was known to have been openly friendly towards Nazi officers, and was reportedly romantically involved with Nazi intelligence officer Baron Hans Gunther von Dincklage.

In 2011, a biography titled Sleeping with the Enemy: Coco Chanel’s Secret War, written by investigative reporter Hal Vaughan, revealed that she had collaborated with the Nazi intelligence service.

Three years later, French intelligence agencies were reported to have declassified and released documents confirming that she worked as a spy for the Nazis.

Maisie’s character Catherine was very close to her brother, and it’s believed that he named his fragrance Miss Dior in her honour.

The New Look premieres on February 14 on Apple TV Plus.
