London is set to be hotter than Los Angeles this Saturday

Spring temperatures are well and truly on the way and in London this Saturday it is set to be even hotter than Los Angeles.

But there is a catch. The UK is braced for strong winds as Storm Olivia hits this weekend.

London and the east are expected to hit highs of 20°C on Saturday, meanwhile in LA it will only be 15°C.

Before the warm temperatures though, Storm Olivia, named by the Portuguese Met Service, will bring blustery showery weather across the UK on Friday.

On Saturday the unseasonably windy weather will continue due to an area of low pressure across northern and western parts.

It will also be windy across the south east and London but temperatures will rise and it is expected to be the warmest day of the year so far and the first time this year temperatures rise above 20°C.

The Met Office said: ‘Spells of rain and showers continuing over the coming days and becoming increasingly windy.

‘Rather mild in the south and turning increasingly mild in the north after a chilly start.’

But it is not all good news because temperatures will start to drop off from Sunday and another area of low pressure will dominate the UK from Monday.

And in Northern Ireland it will feel a lot more on the cooler side at 13°C in both Belfast and Londonderry.

The warmer conditions come after heavy April showers this week.

The Met Office warned Brits will face rain for the next 14 days, and this week we will experience everything from strong winds, to rain, and some sunny spells.

It follows a mixed Easter weekend where those in the south basked in 18°C while those in the north suffered with chillier conditions.

Flood warnings are also still in place for parts of the UK, mainly across the south and east of England.
