A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder after his mum’s dead body was found with multiple stab wounds.

Alan Williams, 23, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video link from Ashworth Hospital today and pleaded not guilty to murder.

Lorraine Cullen, 43, was found dead in her home in Huyton, Merseyside, on the morning of May 11 2022, and Williams was arrested the same day.

Following her death it was confirmed that Williams, who was 21 at the time, had been detained under the Mental Health Act and was receiving treatment.

He has been confined to the psychiatric hospital in Maghull since his arrest.

Williams will face a five-day trial which will start on July 22 and he has been remanded into custody by Judge David Aubrey KC ahead of a further hearing on May 31.

Family friend Paula McNally previously paid tribute to Lorraine and said: ‘She was my friend and her daughter is friends with my son.

‘We’ve all known her for quite some time. She was just the life and soul of the party. She was bubbly, so positive and just chatty. She was just never a negative person.’
