FBI has released a series of surveillance images and video featuring a masked figure in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

The 84-year-old woman, mother of The Today Show presenter Savannah Guthrie, was taken ‘against her will’ in the early hours of February 1 from her home just outside Tucson, Arizona, in a suspected abduction, according to authorities.

The chilling look shows an armed person disguised in a jacket, ski mask and gloves and wearing a backpack.

The footage shows them on the front porch of a house attempting to obscure the surveillance camera, eventually grabbing a plant to cover the camera.

The images were first released by FBI director Kash Patel personally via social media.

In a statement accompanying the images and video, he wrote: ‘Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices.

‘The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.   Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.’

On Monday, the FBI revealed they had not identified a person of interest of suspect and were ‘not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers,’ according to Hollywood Reporter.

The day before, on Sunday, February 8, the Today Show co-anchor shared an emotional video message on social media, after TMZ reported an alleged ransom note sent to them was shared with the Pima County Sheriff.

U.S. journalist and television host Savannah Guthrie, accompanied by her siblings Annie and Camron, speaks in a video message, addressing that they are willing to pay for the release of their elderly mother, Nancy Guthrie, who went missing from her Arizona home several days ago, in this screen grab obtained from social media video taken at an unspecified location and released February 7, 2026. In the social media clip, she and her siblings said: ‘We received your message and we understand.’

Then, on Monday afternoon, they released a new video in which they said they were ‘at an hour of desperation’ in ‘this nightmare’.

The video continued: ‘She was taken and we don’t know where, and we need your help.

‘No matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tucson, if you see anything, you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement.’

Nancy was last seen on Saturday, January 31, with the alarm raised over her whereabouts when she failed to attend a virtual church service the next day.

She is considered to be ‘a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition.’

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 (£36,600) for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
