A reliable insider has suggested a rumoured God Of War title could be released on multiple platforms at launch, with a reveal at Sony’s State Of Play.
While we’re still in the dark about the future of Kratos after God Of War Ragnarök, since last year there have been persistent rumours of a 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off.
Previous rumours described it as a ‘side story’ set in Ancient Greece, the setting of the original God Of War trilogy. The new game is said to be developed by Mega Cat Studios (known for Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into The Pit), with original developers Santa Monica Studio in a supervisory role.
We’ve heard nothing about the title officially, but with a State Of Play on the horizon for this week, hope has increased for a potential announcement.
This optimism led one person to quiz reliable leaker NateTheHate – who outed the date of the Nintendo Partner Showcase and the State of Play ahead of time – about the rumours. Specifically, he asked if the talk of a Nintendo Switch 2 port were true.
‘All I can say is this,’ NateTheHate began. ‘When talk of the 2D God Of War first started last year, I heard whispers that it was being considered for a multiplatform release. Whether that consideration evolved into an active plan… I don’t know.’

While there are clear caveats in his response, Sony has dabbled with multiplatform launches recently. The most notable example is Lego Horizon Adventures, which came out on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in November 2024.
There aren’t any exact sales figures for Lego Horizon Adventures, but all signs suggest it was a flop for Sony, and while that might be connected to the popularity of the Horizon IP with young kids, its lack of success could put Sony off from multiplatform launches generally.
However, Sony subsequently released versions of Patapon and Everybody’s Golf across multiple formats, so they didn’t give up on the idea immediately.
If Sony is considering this God Of War title for Nintendo’s console, that suggests this 2.5D spin-off could be different in tone or style. Although it’s not as if the Switch 2 is lacking in 18-rated games, even if there was that peculiar trouble with Dispatch.
There’s a chance it could be announced during tomorrow’s State Of Play presentation. While there haven’t been any leaks yet, early word suggests we could hear more about Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
